URUÇUCA / SERRA GRANDE

Initially denominated town of Water-black of Mucambo, because of the dark waters of their rivers, the municipal district of Uruçuca appeared, with 20 km of primitive beaches, practically deserted, with a blue sea of clear and lukewarm waters. Uruçuca is located amid cocoa farms, with beautiful beaches and waterfalls, ideal for the ecoturism practice.

Arriving at the town of Big Mountain, that it is to 300 meters of the sea level, its meets casually big the coast until the city of Ilhéus, the a distance of 50 km (access road BA-001 Ecological Highway - Ilhéus/Itacaré), chosen as Area of Environmental Protection - APA, the passage of the coast understood between the city of Itacaré and the area denominated Serra Grande, municipal district of Uruçuca, for the singular presence of rocky cliffs, associated to remainders of Atlantic forest and coastal plain with sandbank, they conform atmospheres of a fantastic beauty.

Following the coast towards Itacaré, along the extensive coconut trees, the nature surprises with beautiful shows, streams descend the mountain forming small cascades, in a beautiful scenery.

Beyond of that fantastic scenery, there is very well an excellent typical cookery of the area to taste fish and shellfishes temperate in the simple restaurants with good food. There are lodgings built in rustic and cozy style, some to the edge sea, with good services and inviting prices.

In that municipal district they are the Area of Environmental Protection Itacaré/Serra Grande and the State Park of the Mountain of Conduru, the third largest biodiversity of the world.

HIGHWAY-PARK

The connection for highway between Ilhéus and Itacaré, going by Serra Grande, it was open during to 2nd World war. This access was made for the arrival of the telegraph in Itacaré. Until the paving of the highway Ilhéus/Itacaré the arrival of goods and the residents' transport was made by the ground highway that edges Rio de Contas and it proceeds for Uruçuca or BR-101. To "go for the city was an adventure. We left Itacaré in the morning and we arrived at the city after several hours - with hair hard of dust, or the feet full of mud, when it rained and the bus stalled in the mud - they count the residents."

The highway Park Islander-Itacaré, ended in 1998, with 65 km of extension, it was the first highway of Brazil that counted with an environmental attendance in every phase of the works. The great concern was to create the minimum possible impact in this area of Atlantic forest, rivers, mangroves, sandbank and other extremely fragile ecosystems to the human action always thinking about not leaving of also creating the safety for the users.

Eco-Bike

The highway Park has equipments distributed along the highway, as aerial catwalks to guarantee a traffic more insurance of the local fauna. For the cyclists, the highway also counts with two bike lane passages. The first of them, located after the beginning of the highway for who leaves Ilhéus, with 9 km of extension and it is going to the entrance to the Lagoa Encantada. The second passage is a little shorter - 6 km, leaving of Itacaré and finishing close to the Assentamento da Marambaia. The bike lane is very used by the residents of the rural area as road of traffic for pedestrians, cyclists and transport of animals.

The highway Park Ilhéus-Itacaré it is a beautiful postcard with presence of the last remainders of Northeastern Atlantic forest.
