Caverna - Santa Luzia
SANTA LUZIA

Santa Luzia has many natural beauties, sheltering rivers, waterfalls, ponds, caves and some rock faces. In the past it was the largest pole of exploration of diamonds of the south of Bahia. Santa Luzia comes if turning a quite busy pole for those that look for radical sports.

Caves, rivers, waterfalls, wells, ponds and great rock faces draw Santa Luzia's beautiful landscape, the newest of the municipal districts of the Cocoa Coast, dismembered of Canavieiras in 1985. The scenery, that would perfectly be framed as part of Plated Diamantina, protects an extra advantage: the proximity with the sea.

Fruit of the wealth and opulence of the diamonds, the Town of Jacaranda, to the margins of Pardo River, tumbled Historical Ranch and patrimony of the municipal district, it conserves colonial constructions, as the church Nossa Senhora do Rosário, that opens to a privileged view of the city, in the high of a hill.

In the beginning of the century XX, the search of sands monazíticas took to the diamonds of Salobro, a larger exploration of diamond in the south of Bahia, scenery of the doctor's romance and writer Afrânio Peixoto.

That exploration of diamonds, together with the agricultural expansion it strengthened the town of Jacaranda to the margins of the Brown river, the city declined starting from a calamitous inundation in 1914. Later, a town would appear at close place to the previous, that it received the name of it "Recuperates Skirt" (current municipal district of Santa Luzia), because in that place there was a lot of mud and the women needed to lift the skirts to cross the quagmire.
